CHAPTER I – THEORETICAL PART

I.1. Introduction

Climate-related topics belong to the most complicated, but the most important problems of modern life sciences research, especially climatology, meteorology and ecology. In fact, the climate is one of the most important factors that determine the nature and functioning of whole ecosystems and human societies. In recent years, changes in the Earth’s climate have become the subject of interest to many societies and nations of the world. [1].
In the end of the twentieth century, there are a new challenges for the organization of environmental care. The environment began to be recognized as a strategic source for raw materials. Therefore, there was a particular need to develop new technologies which decrease the pollutants emissions introduced into environment.
One of the most important pollutants is CO2 which is formed mainly during burning fuels in power plants. New technologies are searched which could apply CO2 as raw material and thus remove it from the environment. On of such technologies is carbon dioxide hydrogenation.
The aim of this work was to study new catalysts based on ZnO-La2O3 and ZnO-Ga2O3 supports. The tasks undertaken were: (i) preparation of the catalysts (ii) their characterization and (iii) the characterization of catalytic performance.
